Dr. Cathy Kyeremanteng is a Registered Clinical, Rehabilitation and Neuropsychologist and founding psychologist of Heron Mental Health. She works with adults and seniors and provides individual psychological and cognitive assessment and treatment of various neurological and mental health conditions. She also offers group psychological therapy programs.

Areas of Focus:

  • the assessment and treatment of adults experiencing and adjusting to the physical and emotional effects of injury and disability (e.g., concussion and other brain injury, cancer, chronic pain, functional neurological disorder (FND), and other neurological and physical illnesses)
  • general mental health (e.g., anxiety and mood disorders, life transitions, grief)

Approach to therapy: integrative and tailored to each patient’s unique experiences and needs, incorporating:

  • cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, brief experiential / emotion-focused therapy (EFT), pain-reprocessing therapy (PRT), and eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR).
  • emphasizes the importance of the mind-body connection in the experience of and recovery from mental and physical illness and injury.

Dr. Kyeremanteng completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2012 at the University of Ottawa. She trained in adult clinical, rehabilitation and neuropsychology at several Ottawa area hospitals. She is also a certified 200 h yoga instructor and incorporates some of the principles of yoga (mind-body awareness, meditation, breathwork) into her therapy as appropriate. Since completing her training, she has worked in hospital-based rehabilitation and acute care settings, primary care settings, and private practice.

She has pursued continued education in a number of areas including neuro-rehabilitation, mindfulness-based therapy, EFT, CBT, PRT and EMDR, as well as the treatment of specific conditions such as chronic pain, post-concussion syndrome and FND. Dr. Kyeremanteng is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and is a professional member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Ontario Psychological Association.
